Sustainable

Matisse Design Studio attempts to reduce, reuse, and recycle all materials to the largest degree possible for each client project as well as in-house operations.  All client furnishings that are deemed unacceptable for inclusion in the project aesthetic are targeted for removal from the installation site and are donated for resale or reuse at local charities.

Social equity is one of the primary tenets of Matisse Design Studio, and when possible, recycling of materials to organizations or charities in specific need of seasonal items is addressed first before any general recycling programs are considered.  In particular, we contact our network of shelters for abused and disenfranchised populations to identify any needs before sending items to general collection agencies such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

All installation site materials and equipment that are dismantled prior to installation - such as old appliances, cabinets, tile, stone, and the like - are sent to local reuse facilities where customers purchase such items for refurbishing and reinstallation for other sites.  Other items found on site such as toxic materials will be directed to agencies that handle the responsible disposal of those items.

Through our exclusive Reuse, Recycle and Disposal Program we are actively leading by example and exercising our social and environmental duty to clean up the spaces we inhabit.  Our program offers our clients the opportunity to actively participate in a closed loop system where their waste outputs are transformed into vital inputs of a reduce, reuse, recycle market economy.

We practice sustainable operations within our company and incorporate as many materials and waste reduction processes as possible.  Some examples are:

• Zipcar membership and metro transit for local business trips
• In-house water filtration system in lieu of water bottle delivery
• Local CSA delivery for in-house healthy snacks
• In-house selection of linen, porcelain, silver, and crystal in lieu of disposable paper napkins and towels, and plastic utensils
• 100% post-consumer waste paper products
• Green office supply purchasing agreements
• Green power certificates for inner-office electric utility
• Recycling of all e-waste through proper channels
• Green cleaning products and janitorial service
• Utilization of paperless processes and digital file storage
